I had a new black Eclipse '98 GSX (all-wheel drive, turbo), sold it after putting about 180K miles on it in about 4/5 years.
Was very reliable, very few issues. Build quality wasn't the best, but not horrible. Any problems I always associated to the 'Chrysler' in them.
Are they a girls car? Well, girls like them, that's for sure. Always had chics saying they loved my car, but that's not always a bad thing. Yes lots of girls drive lower-end Eclipses, but lots of girls drive Maximas, Civics, and Mustangs as well.
Quick car, AWD was great, too much body roll for my taste however.
I think they're reliable cars, especially the turbos with the Mitsubishi engines, as long as they haven't been beat on (and that's a big AS LONG AS).
Personally, I don't like the newer Eclipses - 'boring' compared to the last generation.
Good luck...
