Is the IBM Deskstar 60GXP a good drive?

Well, my 45GB 75GXP started to finally die on me yesterday after a year of service. I went over to a Maxtor 40GB drive, though I'm thinking maybe I shoulda gone for the 60GXP since the price is comparable and it's faster...

thanks for being so critical. i reread that post before sending it maybe 5 times just to make sure that i didnt have any gramatical errors for someone to point out and be a dick. i do know what 1% of 1 million is. anyone can figure that out. its nice to know that at least someone will always be there to pick people apart for no reason. have a great day, thorin! you deserve it! its people like you that oppress and intimidate others in this forum from speaking out, even though they could have really great ideas.

"thanks for being so critical."

I was critical? I didn't even critisize your punctuation, spelling, or grammar, etc.... (I will if you like, just let me know). If you think that was critical you'll never survive College.

"i reread that post before sending it maybe 5 times just to make sure that i didnt have any gramatical errors for someone to point out and be a dick."

Hmmmm 5 times....that's pretty sad because you missed lots.

"i do know what 1% of 1 million is. anyone can figure that out."

Yet if we look at your original post "now, if they sell 1million, well you do the math." it's as if you couldn't figure it out or as if you expected other people to be unable or something.....

"its nice to know that at least someone will always be there to pick people apart for no reason."

Again as I said already, I didn't pick apart your post at all. I simply actually read everyone elses posts and pointed out that the only IBM drive that people complain(ed) about is the 75GXP (specifically the 45GB model). Unlike some people who make broad statements like "im really sick and tired of saying that ibm drives (especially the 60gxp) are bad." (I don't recall anyone putting down IBM drives in general like you suggest).

"have a great day, thorin! you deserve it! its people like you that oppress and intimidate others in this forum from speaking out, even though they could have really great ideas."

I am having a great day thank you! And I have in no way opressed you. I did not overwhelm you and I didn't not keep you from doing anything what so ever (you may want to check this site and this page). If you were intimidated by something here that is no ones fault but your own. As for great ideas and speaking out; I expect and appreciate when people here speak out and share their great ideas. I don't recall making any comments about anyone speaking out or expressing themselves. What would be the point of a public forum, if not to share ideas. I'm sorry that you somehow feel wronged or whatever, I hope you too enjoy and have a great day!

Boards like this tend to be monopolized by cocky SOB's like Thorin or myself. Replying isn't going to help, just ignore him and move on. Then buy yourself a can of TROLL-KILLER.

"thanks for making anandtech forums all they can be!"

Heh. No problemo! 'Be all that you can be.'

"i wonder if it would have made a difference, in this exchange, if i wasnt a junior member? "

WTF does that have to do with anything?

Piss on Sharky, Tom , Storage Review,ZD and all the rest (Anand you're not on the list.....yet)
The GXP 75 was wonderful too, for a while.
The 60 has only been out a few months and is yet to be proven a good drive...It's too damn new.
I have already seen some complaints around.
It's something that's new SHOULD NOT be recommended to anyone.
Wanna be a test rat ? Go get one.....
'Til then....Max, WD, Seagate ? Who knows...
None of them seem all that great...It's a shame....
I'm now using Diamond Max Plus'z exclusively in clients boxes as well as my own ????? So far , So good XXX

What's wrong with Storage Review? (I understand Tom, Sharky, and ZD)

I kinda of agree but do you really think that IBM is going to shoot themselves in the foot by not getting it right the second time around? I would think and really really hope for their sake that they got/get it right this time. I'm sure you and others have seen complaints already, but can you hosnestly think of a single product (comp prod) that you have never seen a complaint about? (If nothing new was ever recommended to anyone and we didn't at least partially trust reviews, etc... how many AMD based systems do you think we'd be seeing these days?)
