I thought the new M5 was the first to do that with their 5.0 500hp v-10.

S2000: 2 litre -240Hp.

You do the math.

You mean the golden age of cars that can only go in a straight line.

So true... I grew up helping my dad restore a bunch of classic Mopars... over the years you realize NOTHING will come close to the essence of those cars.

LOL - you guys are so funny. In 30 years people will be looking back at the current cars just like you do the 64-71 cars.

That isn't really true. Several of those old muscle cars handled very well, given the tire technology of the day. Example- '69 Camaro Z-28 with 302 ci small block was a very nice car to drive in the twisties.

But I do think we are in the midst of another golden age, there's never been so many interesting cars to choose from as there are right now.

btw, with Cadillac and Chrysler both having cool luxury performance models, when is Ford going to develop a new hot rod Lincoln ? If they aren't working on one it's a damn shame.

What's the lowest priced 500hp car out there (factory or factory modified)? Not one you can buy and add this/that to...

I don't imagine it's a problem, only so much $$$ to go around and people in the market for 500HP cars just have more choices.

Understandable, but the majority of todays cars will outhandle cars of old.

People drive like idiots no matter how powerful their cars are. So that point is irrelevant.

It seems to be becoming a common trend with everything and not just automobiles. "More Power". They know the car manufacturers are making these cars for glory hounds and thrill seekers. Just like how gun companies that make finger print proof handles know they are selling them not only for law enforcement who don't want their guns to rust.

The richer get richer and they are running out of things to buy.

Yes, but how many of these are out on the road? More importantly, how many hours of real-world driving time do these things actually get?

Who cares? I won't be happy until all my cars have 500hp!!! 😀

Actually, it is true. The muscle cars from the 60s don't handle anywhere near the limit of todays street legal performance cars. Not to mention the fact that most of them had underbolstered seats and poor safety ratings compared to todays cars.

You mean we are in the twilight of the age of gasoline powered automobiles.

It's going to be funny when more power means adding another motor (electric). People will no longer be able to brag about 500 horsepower. I can't wait!

Oh, and electric will make cars VERY powerful hypothetically. And all four wheels could get tehre own motor!

No it isn't. You aren't answering the original claim, you are answering your own reframing of the original claim as if it was a comparison of that era's cars to todays. The original claim was that the older era cars were only fast in a straight line, which isn't true.

Compared to other cars of their day, European sports cars for example, some of the muscle cars handled well.

I can see it now, dude, I have 4 Engines, one for each wheel, this baby'll do 0-200 in 10s.
What's the battery life?
10seconds.

If you are waiting for other power sources and this combo, well, you've got a long wait ahead.
