Is the hookshot the best play/move/shot in basketball?

Most big men in the NBA who do hook shots dont do it from 10+ away. Thats why Vlade Divac had such a long NBA carear. He could hit a 15 foot hook shot.. Him and Kareem Abdul Jabar.

well, if he's talking about the fadeaway jumper, that's a pretty tough shot to block....especially with the athleticism of NBA guys. MJ, Vince, Kobe.....they all had/have killer fadeaways that's damn near impossible to block.

honestly, 1 out of 5 true hook shots from three point range is pretty good..... i wouldn't say impossible, because you might just be damn good at it....but that's not an easy feat.

I once hit 32 free throws in a row.

Not kidding.

But to be honest, I didn't realize until halfway through it, I was using a women's regulation size ball (28.5).

I could still do it, or come close with a men's sized ball.

I'm quite weak (in a supermodel sort of way), so I play better with a women's sized ball.

Adjust to playing with a women's ball in a game? I find I can shoot the lights off with a women's ball but then when I go back to a men's I couldn't hit a cow in the ass with a shovel.

Very true. If they are large enough to play post, it is the best. otherwise, it is largely inaccurate from long distances and going at high speeds due to handling the ball. Sadly, not many center do hooks anymore, but baby hooks. It isn't flashy enough.

eh? no gym rats here? i've hit three pointer hook shots and half court hook shots at least a few times. sure, it'll probably take me like 20 tries, but you speak of it like it's impossible, lol.

i'm willing to bet jabbar could hit hook shots from that distance. i doubt theres any video of it though, because in a game situation, why shoot 20ft hook shots when its easier to set up 10ft away from the basket and score from there? and also, if you're at the 3pt line, your defender usually wont be glued on you, and you could just shoot a normal jump shot.

I disagree, it is a great way for a smaller player who comes into the post to make a move against a bigger stronger player without getting it swatted back in his face or getting tosses around trying to bang for position.

Just went to the gym and on my 3rd attempt from beyond college 3 point arc... swish. I took a total of 12 shots, 2 made, and only 1 airball/no rim.

btw, the best "play" in basketball is still the pick and roll, IMO. it's ancient yet still so difficult to guard.

No one shoots it anymore because (1) you can't draw a foul, and (2) it is a low probability shot for most players.

You can draw a foul, and get high % if you practice.

Right now with zone defense, it's pretty hard to get a chance to position yourself with a hook shot without getting swarmed by defenders.

That's very impressive...hell, the best NBA players can barely make 9/10 shooting in the standard manner, unguarded, from the free throw line.

As for the hook shot, it's inherently harder to aim with your head sidways and not perpendicular to the line your arms make
