Is the hookshot the best play/move/shot in basketball?

It is virtually undefendable and can be hit consistently from as far out as 15-20 feet. Opinions

Hook shot is the greatest shot in the game for uncontested shooting. The problem is that it also takes away the ability to draw a foul in a lot of cases. I just wish someone would start shooting the sky hook with some regularity. :)

You mean the best shot to avoid a defense player contesting the shot, and not the best shot to take when uncontested. Correct?

if it is the best shot in basketball, you've got to wonder why no one shoots it anymore.

my guess is that it's not "cool" to practice.

btw, the best "play" in basketball is still the pick and roll, IMO. it's ancient yet still so difficult to guard.

It's not widely used now because people only get high fives and chicks with dunks and threes. :)

Fundamental basketball is pretty much gone now. Take a look at Memphis. Arguably the most gifted team in the whole country but their fundamentals got them owned yesterday. Slow down fellas this isn't the playground...

Uconn was the most gifted. no arguement, but we'll save it for another thread

Hook shot from 20ft away? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

You realize that a college 3-pointer is from 19'9", right? I've never seen anyone hit a hook shot 3, and I'll bet nobody here has either.

I've hit a hookshot from 3 before.... in fact, I'll get it on video tommorow. It will be on my honor that I attempt it no more than 8 times in a row; all shots will be on the video until the makeit or I fail. (6'2" white kid here with no organized basketball experience)

Hey, can you tell me what Larry Bird did? Yeah. He hit a three point hook shot. Oh, by the way, its not that hard you realize? I'm mildly decent at basketball and can hit it 1 out of every 5 shots.

eh? no gym rats here? i've hit three pointer hook shots and half court hook shots at least a few times. sure, it'll probably take me like 20 tries, but you speak of it like it's impossible, lol.

1 out of 5 damn you must be pretty good - that's about my regular 3 pt % (from college distance). I can hit a hook shot from within 6 feet - it's probably my most accurate shot sadly lol.

you should have been at my local ymca when i was about 11. hookshots from half court, backwards shots from across the gym, others banked off the walls. it was crazy, now i couldn't hit a free throw if my life depended on it.
