I was wondering if this Hedgehog heatsink is better than Alpha?? would rather get a top notch heatsink and put quiet fan on there.

From what I've heard the hedgehog needs a good fan on it to perform good. I also heard that an Alpha pal 6035 with a Ystech 27.2 fan on it would beat the hedgehog with the same fan, but the hedgehog would beat the alpha when it had a Delta 38 fan on it.

Might want to check out the new forged Taisols also. Supposedly very quiet, and great cooling. I myself have an Alpha and it's been really good, and I'd probably take it over the Hedgehog.

I dunno, as many members of this bbs will say, heatsync reviews area often messed up. Anyway, the hedgehogs are not machine made, so they vary in quality. You really need to lap the bottom, the one I installed came with a pretty rough machined bottom. I sanded it down, up to 2000grit before installing it, as this seems to make a pretty significant difference in temperatures.

seems that in generla the finish and quality of an Alpha would be better than the hedgehog... the hedgehog granted you can lap it and prepare it right will put up a good fight, but if you aren't experienced or don't have the right tools to prep the sink, the Alpha's are a better way to go...

I've got the Hedgehog 238 with the copper heatsink and the 60MM Delta 38CFM fan. It is a great heatsink/fan and I would recommend it to everyone. My temps are 9C-15C cooler than the stock heatsink and fan that came with my Pentium III 850 FC-PGA CPU.

Don't forget to apply some Artic Silver too!

hydrobum: Depends what fan is on it, the alpha with the delta 38 is just as loud as the hedgehog with the delta 38 fan, and the hedgehog will perform better. But the Alpha with a Ys-tech 27.2 or a Sunon 23 fan on it will perform better then a hedgehog with either of those fans.

how about the Taisol 742092? Anyone played with one of these yet?
So will the "Alpha with a Ys-tech 27.2 or a Sunon 23 fan" fit in the Abit KT7 or Msi K7T Pro2A?

sorry for being ignorant, but this is my first time building a system :p

I would buy the hedgehog and some sandpaper, 1000grit, 1500grit, and 2000grit (wetsand paper).

get it nice and mirror finish, and apply some Artic Silver. you can get the hedgehog with a quieter fan, but if you can get it without any fan at all, then you can add your own (GizMO's fan site over here) quieter fan, or try a bigger fan, which will give more CFM's and less dB: ultimate insanity

Alternatively, try this, Titan Orb. Don't know much about this one yet.

Titan ORBs(also known as C-orbs) do not work very well for duron/t-birds... An overclocked to 1ghz chip would really push the cooling limits of this chip.
