Is the gamecube pretty much dead?

I still have mine and its a great system. But is that it for the games? Also, with the wii, will nintendo come out with any new franchises? I would like to see them take chances and put out some quality games besides the mario/zelda/metroid we have come to expect.

just bought a gc memory card to play some gc games i borrowed from a friend, as well as a controller.

Nintendo did introduce two new franchises to the US with the last generation systems.

Fire Emblem series - two GBA games and a GC game. Great games. Tactical RPGs.
Nintendo Wars series - two GBA games, a DS game, and a GC game. All three handheld games are tactical RPGs that really downplay the RPG aspects. The GC game (Battalion Wars) is a third-person squad-based action game.

Both are typically developed by Intelligent Systems (an inteneral development group at Nintendo), but Battalion Wars was developed by someone else and published by Nintendo. Both have new titles scheduled for the Wii.

There's also Pilotwings. That was on the SNES, N64, and now it will likely be on the Wii. Donkey Kong is a big franchise for Nintendo. And Wii Sports/Wii Play/Wii Music/Wii Motor Sports can kind of be considered a franchise I guess.

i never owned a gamecube so when i got my wii, i bought a handful of great games on the gamecube to play on the wii

i think the wii will help give some life to gamecube games.

The Gamecube apparently died when EGM gave Fire Emblem game of the year for GC. Even though FE was a decent game and got pretty good reviews, that basically meant that the GC wasn't getting very many good exclusive games.

You think that's bad, I still haven't finished Wind Waker. Just dusted it off last week and it said I hadn't played it since Spring 2005. It's really a great game, though. I usually don't have much time to play so I had been sticking to sports games and SSBM.

I'm sure a Mario Party title will be on the way. I really enjoyed the Gamecube. After Zelda I'm sure the Gamecube will finally be on its way out. I noticed today that the Wii has almost completely taken over the Gamecube spot at Target.
