is the FX-51 still a good performer?

Yes, its a good performer. Not worth the money though and it's socket 940, so you would need registered ram 🙁

I would say maybe a 3500+ Winchester since they both have dual channle memory controller..IN apps that larger L2 makes a difference the FX51 could be better.

Facts are the FX51 is not a good buy unless you can get it in a 939 model....IMO...

I did see one listed at pricewatch that said sckt 939...who knows if that is right though.....

If the prices listed there are indicative of it, unless you already have one or access to one helluva deal t is a POS DEAL....YOu could get a 3500 w/ mobo w/ 1gb of ram for that price....

I think its only available on socket 940, so registered ram is needed, still a good performer and will beat most Pentium 4?s in games. But I would like to see how the 3400+ (2.4ghz) S745 Newcastle performs against it, I don?t believe the extra 512 cache will hurt the 3400+ that much and extra 200 Mhz will probably put it ahead in most test except memory bandwidth ( single channel).

its about as fast as the 3500+, because i remembering it being just a tad bit faster then the 3400+. its not worth it at all because it requires socket 940 and registered ram.

Just as everyone else has said, don't bother. The 3400+ was always close to it even in Clawhammer form, and the Newcastle outclocked it by 200MHz (at the cost of 512K L2 cache). That Newcastle will also outperform the 3500+ (despite the 3400+ having only single channel memory operation), so you can go that route if you don't mind Socket 754.

Also, I haven't seen any SFF 940 barebones setups. The demand wouldn't seem to be there. Its brief stay in the consumer market was quickly ended with the introduction of the 939 FX-53 (maybe just 939 in general, or possibly the 3400+, though the latter could be a little debatable), anyway.

OK, I don't think you can buy one most places anymore. Why do you ask ? trying to flame again ? This is the third post I have seen like this, and I am getting tired of reading your flaming posts !!!

Ban anyone ???
