Is the Fire stable? The demo at Target wasn't.

I just came upon a demo of the Fire at Target an hour back. I moved the carousel around a bit, and then clicked "apps" at the top right. I waited a moment staring at a black screen, then a message that it was not responding and I could either force close or wait. I force closed. I then returned to the carousel and found cut the rope. The game loaded, and then on the first screen a creature in a box, looking like I was to tap it to begin the game. I did this, saw black screen again and around 10 seconds later that cut the rope wasn't responding and I could either force close or wait.

I certainly hope this is only because it was "Emma's" tablet; i.e. somebody (Emma, I imagine) had named the device hers. Maybe a bunch of other people have f**ked around with it enough that it was unstable (?).

I've seen this before on display models for other tablets. When hundreds of people a day play with them, install apps, uninstall apps, start dozens of apps and never kill them, install task killers with autokills, etc . . . the floor models can be really hosed sometimes.

Seems like every time I play with the HC tablets at my local BBs, some idiot has installed ATK with a blanket autokill on everything. I uninstall it every time.

I've used mine for at least 15 hours so far without any crashes -- music, Netflix, reader, browser, Bejeweled 2 (was the free app of the day).

The one I have for my mom is stable. The interface can stutter at times (and the browser sucks) but I haven't had any crashes.

None of the reviews I've read suggest any stability problems, I think the closest to that was on the launch, all but one of the presenters during the "hands on" part of it were very reluctant to let attendees do anything with the devices since they weren't completely finished and they didn't want any bad experiences like crashes to mar the intro...

Who knows what that poor demo unit has been through.
