According to this website, the 965p-s3 is compatible with core 2 duo. But this website says that the board is compatible with processors only up to a 1066 MHz FSB, whereas the e8500 has a 1333 MHz FSB. I can't get my computer to post with the e8500, but it posts fine with my older pentium d 955 extreme. I'm guessing i need a new mobo too??

Thanks

Nvm I found it, it's rev 1.0

Any recommendations on a stable and future-proof motherboard that would be compatible with a 1333 MHz FSB? Cheaper is obviously better, plus I don't plan on doing any overclocking

That looks pretty reasonable, but I'm worried that my memory might also be outdated. That motherboard says it supports "Memory Standard: DDR2 1200(OC)/1066/800". Does that mean my DDR2 667 won't work on that board? Seems like most mobos now only support DDR2 1200/1066 judging by the popular items on newegg. Thanks for all your help btw.

Your memory will be supported just fine. That motherboard is infact showing off by listing high-end speeds (non-JDEC rated, infact, other than the 800) of DDR2 that it can handle. The DDR2-667 is all you need (bare minimum tbqh) to run a processor with an FSB of 1333MHz.
