Is the Duron 1200 worth the money

Well théy are almost giving away thé duron morgan processors. But are they really any good compared to the original Thundbirds for an example. So a test at tomshardware where the Duron 1200 got very close to a P4 1,5 GHz in D3D gaming. ´

Is this really true, and if its then the Duron morgan seems to be an exellent processor for "old" motherboards that only support 100 FSB 😛

My nickel

The Morgan Duron is a very nice procesor, and holds its own very nicely against the same speed T-Bird. you have to make sure that your motherboard will support the Morgan/Palomino core. Most likely it will with a bios update, but there are some that will not, so please check before you lay down your $$ for the processor.

Its for an A7V "classic" motherboard, and ive seen some ppl on this forum reporting succes with the a Duron 1200 on the A7V, so I´ll give it a go.

True, I prefer Morgan compare to Athlon XP also on cost performance ratio
for gaming. the only lack on morgan is the l2 cache which is affect the
performance on some high pressure calculation program.

I agree, in terms of price/performance the Morgan is an excellent buy. I have a 1.0 Morgan running happily at 1209MHz in an old KT7, it only cost $46.95 shipped! I clocked it to 1296MHz on my Epox 8K7A and did some benchtests. Then I lowered my 1530MHz t-bird to 1296 and compared. They were almost dead equal in all tests, the t-bird squeezed out an extra 100 pts. in 3DMark 2001. I believe most people are getting the 1.2GHz Morgan to 1300-1350MHz pretty easily.
