Is the Disney World site down??

Was it slow at all or anything weird?? I tried to log in at my parents place and wouldn't let me and also on my computer and still couldn't. Frustrating.

I keep trying to log in to plan my trip next week but it comes up with no pictures or formatting, just text and takes forever. I tried Chrome and IE.

Also, I have no idea about the place, any recommendations on things to do/see?

I personally like this crowd calendar better: 😉

He's winning half the battle by going there when it's not summer (ungodly humid and hot 😛 ; just checked the forecast...it'll be in the low 90s, so not bad) and school hasn't let out yet.

The main thing about WDW is booking your lodging ASAP, and any particular restaurants you want to go to, book NOW.

You're going next week? Have you booked your lodging yet?

Read up on what I wrote about Disney World in the past.

And here too.

Thanks for the feedback, and yeah the lodging was booked. I'm going with a school trip for my son but we do whatever we want. So far my plan is:

Wed - Magic Kingdom in the evening since it is the only thing open
Thurs - Magic Kingdom all day
Fri - Epcot all day
Sat - Animal Kingdom in the morning, that movie themed park in the afternoon

I have reservations at some British place which will thrill my son for lunch on Friday, some place that you eat around fish tanks for dinner Friday, and the crystal palace for lunch on Thursday.

And I made fast pass reservations each day, space mountain, some hang glider thing, my Everest, dinosaur thing, splash mountain, etc.

We are staying at some movie themed place also. All in all not bad, $1k a piece and that includes airfare, lodging, tickets, and $200 cash per person for food that they will give us.

Best thing at DW for adults is the Epcot world showcase, followed by visiting the nice resorts and the restaurants at both. E.g., the care on top of the contemporary resort, Victora and Albert's in the Grand Floridian I haven't eaten at yet but is well reviewed, the 'country style' meals at Wilderness Lodge and many more.

Xstatic, I'd suggest removing spoilers from your reviews (see you saying how the surprise made it more exciting *for you*, not people who read your post).

For "eat around fish tanks"--do you mean Coral Reef Restaurant at Epcot? If yes,. If it's just the two of you, you can ask the host/hostess to seat you near the aquarium.

Although great for all the food options and good rides, Epcot is a huuuuuge place (it's A LOT of walking). I'm almost tempted to suggest you do Epcot on Thursday and give yourself a break by going to Magic Kingdom on Friday. 😉

Here's the Fireworks & Parade schedule for May: http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/hours/mayfw15.cfm

Stuff to consider wearing/bringing:
- Cargo shorts to keep everything you need (wallet, sunglasses, etc) in your pockets when you're on the rides
- Sunscreen (I cannot stress this enough)

The two links on post #7 were written in previous years. I guess I'm the kind of person who'd rather know up front what the great rides and good restaurants are than waste my time and money on the "average" places. 😉 Walt Disney World is not just 4 theme parks, it's all the hotels/resorts, and restaurants housed within those hotels/resorts.

I mentioned time...because in some cases, some rides may be hours-long wait. Knowing ahead of time which rides are worthy of waiting for was important to me when I was doing my planning.

There's an enormous amount of dining options at WDW (not just at the theme parks especially Epcot, but at the hotels/resorts, and the Disney Boardwalk). I personally hate eating at mediocre restaurants.

Yeah it's the Coral Reef restaurant.

Are the rides long? And if I have the fAst pass how long do I wait in line?

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/plan/my-disney-experience/fastpass-plus/

Hmmm, looks like WDW may have changed the Fast Pass process. When we went (a couple of times in 2013), we had to go to the ride's kiosk and pick-up a ticket (the date and time frame to return is printed on it). There's a separate line for Fast Pass ticket holders.

IIRC, the longest we had to wait for a ride was 90 minutes.

If you're staying at a Disney hotel/resort, one of the biggest perks is Extra Magic Hours, where you essentially gain entry to a theme park before everyone else (it's usually an hour before opening or a couple hours after closing). You can be finished with two rides during that "extra" hour. Check here which theme parks will be offering Extra Magic Hours on the dates you're going: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/calendars/2015-05-09/

If you are into bdsm, I highly recommend It's a small small world. I swear I was going to jump into the water and swim out. And I am not a good swimmer.

The FP+ lines should be 15 minutes or less. You do sometimes see long lines outside the FP+ entrances because other confused guests have trouble (going at the wrong time or other mistakes). The FastPass lines go fairly quick, they let more FP guests on the rides than standby guests. You are allowed to enter the FP line 4 minutes early and up to 10-15 minutes late.

I found it helpful to take a screenshot of the day's FastPass reservations and make it my phone's lock screen (so I never had to wait for the app to load)

I like looking at wait times here, it's basic and loads faster:

You said 4 minutes early to 10 mins late, the rides I chose all give me an hour window though to arrive...? For example my fast pass would be from 2 - 3 pm.

Correct, you would be able to enter the FP line with that 2-3pm FP from 1:56p - 3:10p (or possibly 3:15p if the cast member is feeling friendly)

Download the Disney Experience App early on your iPhone/Android device. You can manage your fast passes 60 days before you get there. You get 3...but after that, find out where the fastpass kiosks are. I found that they are pretty effective if the park isn't extremely booked.

If you're staying at a Disney hotel, you'll get a magic band so that'll take care of your room key, park tickets, and fastpass+...all you have to do is link a credit card and you don't need anything but the magic band when you're in the park. It's pretty nice, but don't forget an ID if you go to Epcot...you may want to get carded. 😀
