Is the Digital Rebel XSi worth the extra cost?

I'm looking to get an entry level DSLR. I have been looking at these models:

Nikon D60
Canon EOS 1000D / Digital Rebel XS
Canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi

The XS and XSi seem pretty similar, with some added features on the XSi. Budget is a little tight, so I'm wondering if the XS would be a bad choice. Would I miss something big not going with the XSi?

If the budget is tight, go for the XS. All of the features that matter for photography are there. The XS has the XTi's 10.1 MP sensor, which is more than enough even for large 13x17 prints and performs well up to ISO 1600.

With the live.com cash back thru ebay. I was able to buy the XSi with kit lens, 50mm f/1.8 lens, a Samsonite bag and tripod for $539 shipped after cash back. the XSi with the kit lens was around $430, i tacked on the 50mm lens for about $80 and the bag+tripod for about $30.

Avoid the D60. You should be able to find some D80's for around the price of the Rebel XSi though.

As was said, if you're tight on cash, the XS is fine. I personally own the XSi though, and love it.

What kind of features does the XSi have over the XS? Did they cut anything exciting?

the xsi has nicer materials on the grip, a bigger viewfinder, bigger but same resolution screen, IR remote sensor, turns off the screen when you put your face up to is, slightly faster continuous, more focus points, a couple more pixels, highlight tone priority (which trades ISO 100 for more dynamic range) and has a spot meter (a little smaller patch than the partial that only canon has)
