So no, it was not overrated.
LOL classic GagHalfrunt post :D

edit: recommend a few books for me, if you can spare a second or two...

I think it would've been a better book if it was written in the style of Choose Your Own Adventure.

^Now that would make for an interesting novel. :)

I liked the book a lot. It reads fast and was hard to put down. I read Angels and Demons too and, although I didn't enjoy it as much as DaVinci Code, I think it would make for a much better movie.... as long as they don't cut out major pieces of the novel like they did in DaVinci Code.

If you're interested in DaVinci Code I highly recommend reading the book and skipping the movie. The movie is a complete waste of time.

Most of the people I have met who told me that they read the book said that they found it to be a murder mystery page turner. They said that they finished the book in one or two days. A small minority said that the book made them think about Jesus and the Church.

In that context and the fact of how well it sold. I do not consider it to be over rated.

These ATOT "Is who or what over rated" threads usually come down to people expressing their typically negative elitist opinions on what is popular.

i have not read it yet, and not sure if I will now that I saw the movie. yes the book is different, but I have trouble reading a book after watching the movie. i am better able to read a book and then watch the movie.

Doesn't that in itself make it overrated, at least in terms of popularity? I've read several bad reviews, but it seems also to have garnered several good ones including one from a literary critic at the NYTimes, furthering my point that it is overrated. But the first part of your post basically hits the nail on the head.

It was definitely a good read, however Angels & Demons was better... The other Dan Brown books (Digital Fortress & Deception Point) were pretty poor though, so don't even bother with those 2...

I thought the idea was pretty good but Dan Brown doesn't seem like he's the best writer. I liked the way he included history into the book but the only problem with it was that many of the things he included were just plain wrong. One that stands out is the number of people that died in the witch trials in Europe; in the book I believe it says millions were killed when in fact it was probably less than 100,000.

Ah yes, the irony of historical inaccuracies in a "historical fiction" novel.

There are a whole bunch- such as when Brown claims there are 20 unpublished gospels, when there are actually only historical records for about 7.
