Ahh, the always present "But THEY did it, so WE should get to do it" right?

Well that certainly justifies the corruption. I feel better.

There have been worse, such as post Civil War, but certainly the gross amount of waste in spending is much higher.

pelosi said it would be the most ethical congress ever, remember? it's the same sort of thing as republicans claiming the sanctity of marriage and then going to hike the appalachian.

Funny... While I agree with the position you put forth, here, I'm wondering how well you practice what you preach. Would one find even one thread, out of your nearly 8000, where you took a critical position of such things when it was people of your political ideology who were guilty of such things?

Personally, I think it's crummy when both sides do it, have said as much, and will continue to do so. Can you say the same?

Thats bollocks and you know it. How often are the Republicans called out on CNN, MSNBC, ABC etc etc.

To think all the MSM is right leaning is absurd.

I dunno, it's kind of hard to be the most corrupt congress compared to one that had Tom Delay as a member.

well the OP is trying to point out that while the economy in tanking and budgets are decreasing.... congressional junkets are increasing.

Impossible, without a Texan in charge there's no way it can be the most corrupt.

That's the problem with corruption.. It's corruption.. whether $15, $15million, or $15billion..

You don't think $15million is worth reporting?

$15million is 300+ average-paying jobs for a year.. which is really actually more because it is paid for in taxes taken from the private sector to interest-bearing loan..

So how about we look at it that way? Thanks to our politicians wasting money for travel, 300 more jobs disappear..

I was less concerned abotu Tom DeLay taking his boondoggle to the Mariannas islands for golf, than I was about his speech to the owners of the factories there who ran slave-like conditions where he highly praied them and promised to block any reform legislation in Congress - and true to his word, when the Senate overwhemingly passed a reform bill (unanimously IIFRC), he ensured it never got a vote in the House, leaving the workers suffering in exchange for his golf fun.

There are tradeoffs in our systems - we expect lawmakers who might make far more in the private sector to sacrifice a lot, and they sometimes take some cushy trips.

That's small potatoes compared to the real corruption issues when they sell out the public interest in the public responsibilityes involving trillions.

So let me get this straight.

When a republican get caught doing something corrupt, there is no excuse for the behavior because republicans supposedly preach being not-corrupt.

When democrats get caught doing something corrupt, it's OK because democrats have no morals and don't think it's bad to be corrupt?

The spending on overseas travel is up almost tenfold since 1995, and has nearly tripled since 2001, according to the Journal analysis of 60,000 travel records. Hundreds of lawmakers traveled overseas in 2008 at a cost of about $13 million. That's a 50% jump since Democrats took control of Congress two years ago.

Gee, ya think that maybe that 50% jump might have something to do with the timing of the article? Maybe the economy taking a dump and lawmakers telling everybody to tighten their belts had something to do with it too? Nah, I'm sure the only motivation was partisan hackery.
