I have a Compaq Presario M2105US which came with a Sempron 2800. Anyone know if the motherboard would take a cpu upgrade? And if so, what are the choices?
IIRC, thats a socket 939 laptop so any s939 (non-dual core)CPU would work. If I didnt remember correctly, then its socket754...in that case, just about any s754 CPU would work
Noooooooo, you can get any AMD 64 socket 754 in their get this or This and transform your laptop into a nice AMD 64 machines with 1 MB cache and 1.8-2.0 ghz clockspeed. right now I have a socket 939 AMD 64 3000+ @ 2.5 ghz but once socket 754 prices goes dirt cheap I am picking up that DTR AMD 64 3000+ for a machine I will be building besides my AMD 64 gaming machine to serve as my main 64-bit Linux Workstation and I am going to stick it in my IBM micro-atx case, these DTR cpu's overclock like crazy and come with 1MB of L2 cache. the cheapest one you can get your hands on is $ 119 that's still $ 50 cheaper than the 3000+ Desktop socket 754 cpu that comes with less L2 cache.
Don't get the DTR AMD64, that would be unwise. Get a Turion MT processor. Visit the forums of the site in my sig and try to contact a person named Fords8 to purchase a Turion processor. The MT-30 or even ML-30 will be a far better option than the DTR AMD 3000 and should only cost a little bit more.
Turions are far better than AMD 64 DTR but I suggested the AMD 64 DTR 3000+ because I couldn't find any place that sells anything better than, that If you can find Turions for your laptop then go for it otherwise stick with DTR.
So has anyone tried a Turion on a socket 754 Desktop MOBO before ?
