Did the game ever recieve updates? The user reviews are generally terrible, but also seem like dissapointed XCom fans. What about for somebody who has never played an XCom Game?

its not that bad.

It has decent graphics. The story is somewhat cliche but its ok, combat is fun but it gets repetitive since there IS A LOT OF COMBAT. Its a Gears of War game with Enemies taken from Xcom (you will see almost all the enemies from XCOM enemy unknown) with a super-slow-motion pause to give orders to your partners
When you are not fighting you are just running through nice looking corridors that have nothing to interact with.

I cant remember how much time it took me to finish it but its long enough (and maybe a bit too long because of that thing of it being repeatitive)

It has been really cheap lately, like 5 bucks. For 5 bucks i think its a good purchase.
It wont blow your mind, but its a fun ride

Probably going to get flamed, but i'm a big XCOM fan, and i enjoyed the Bureau game.

Actually I think i may have enjoyed the nods to the XCOM mythology more than the game mechanics. It was fun seeing the early iteration of the Skyranger and the Firestorm. There was some interesting lore also buried in the game.

Some of the missions were definitely more interesting than others. It seemed like some generic missions were just quick slammed together to make the game longer.

The mechanics reminded me of Mass Effect more than Gears of War.
