This is test data for BuffaloTech PC3700 (CH-5 chips) purchased from Newegg, tested with 8RDA+, 2 X 256 unmatched sticks in dual-channel:
2,2,2,5 timings to 222MHz@2.7Vdimm.
2.5,2,2,7 timings to 230MHz@2.9Vdimm.
Best memory bandwidth at Tras 7.

Hope this helps!

What about more passive timings? On the P4 especially, ultra-tight timings take a back seat to very high FSB and memory speeds.

What kind of results can you get on these chips at 2-3-3-6 and 2.5-3-3-7 ??

Are you sure the PC3700 has CH-5 chips? According to this page on the Buffalo site the PC3700 memory should have Winbond B chips. As best I can tell from the pictures at Newegg, the Buffalo PC3700 DIMMs have Winbond BH-5 chips.

the likes of geil , corsair, mushkin have those..

No, there's no heatspreaders on the Buffalo RAM. They're mostly a gimmick anyway, you really don't need them.

I strongly disagree with that. Heatspreaders would reduce the temperature of the chips for a few degrees, even better if you have active cooling. My Geil PC 4300/4200 with active cooling and heatspreaders are doing about 3 MHz higher FSB then without. Therefore it plays a role to squeeze more out of the ram.
It does not matter if you are using default voltage but most overclockers use more than that. The sticks might really get heated. Geil PC 4300/4200 does get heated significantly, I know because I touched them while they were on a "full load."
If you don't cool them, they fail sooner.
