Is the Atrix rootable enough these days to get rid of Motoblur?

I'm curious, mainly because I'm in a bit of a predicament. I have a used iphone 4 which I'm pretty much sick of, and I can trade it for a barely used Atrix. Now I've become accustomed to screwing around with things on the iphone, and I know Motorola has been trying to keep things locked down as of late. My question is, has the Atrix been developed enough that I can load a different/updated rom on it without Motoblur? Maybe CM7 or at the very least vanilla 2.3? I'm still not even sure if this is a wise trade... :hmm: Such a tough decision.

I suppose I should also mention that the 4G part doesn't really concern me. I will be outside of 4G coverage the vast majority of the time.

AFAIK, the bootloader on the Atrix was broken wide open when a GB build leaked. So, yes, you'll soon be able to sport any ROM, kernel, AOSP flavor that a developer makes.

I thought I read Motorola is unlocking the boot loader on this? You'd be able to put whatever on it then.

Gotcha. So apart from the Atrix, have you had any other phones to compare it to? Be it Android, Apple, etc to compare it to?

I have had all the iPhones and I played around with my cousin's G1 back in the day and the G2 he has now. When I first got the Atrix and booted up I was kind of disappointed but the leaked 2.3.4 addresses 90% of the issues I had.

On the build it ships with, the Atrix feels like a phone from 2008 but when you flash the new build on it it's very smooth and fun to use. Just be prepared for the initial "WTF?" because you expect this phone to be smooth and quick but coming from an iPhone 4 I wasn't too blown away my first time playing with it.

The new Gingerbread build in my opinion made it on-par with WP7/iOS for UI fluidity and smoothness.

Thanks for the info! I have been waiting since the rumors of Motorola removing some of the locked items in their phones to see what may come. I'm really happy Motorola is going this way with the Atrix.

:hmm: Good to hear. My biggest concern is being disappointed in the response because I'd be coming from the snappiest UI out there in the iPhone 4. If I update it though I'm sure I won't have any big issues. Doesn't look like I'll be able to get it anytime soon unfortunately. The guy who wanted to trade seems to be a little sketchier than I care to deal with.

Bah! Just saw that Best Buy has the Atrix at $50 for the upgrade price. Why oh why can't I get it that cheap :(
