Is the Asus K501 noisy? And what can you do about it?

I'm condering buying either an ASUS K501UB-DM031T-BE with 940M or K501UX-DM140T with 950M videocard. Both have an i7-6500U and 8GB. Now I read alot of reviews of people complaining that the fans start spinning every couple of minutes even when just browsing which must be annoying. Are these just bad units or maybe something in the (power) settings can do something about this. Anybody experience with the K501 models?

Thanks in advance for all usefull feedback.

The fans will always spin, the CPUs cannot be cooled passively even at idle, but you will barely hear it. You will get a 2nd speed which is only a little more audible when full into a game. You shouldn't hit any 3rd loud fan speed with this gpu though. I run the q550l which runs an i7u and the 745m, and it is only using a single fan design.

Isn't it so with the K501 that the fans don't spin all the time but do it every couple of minutes to keep the palmrests cool? Not sure if the nVidida 950M or 940M make this better or worse.

Really has nothing to do with the palmrest. They spinup because the cpu temp has reached a certain threshold.

The 940 and 950 are fairly budget oriented chipsets (and ideal for a ULV processor that won't have enough raw cpu power to reach the limits of a 970 and 980), they won't be expelling any temps the cooling solution can't handle with ease. Also the chip isn't even active unless you have a game running.
