Is the ASUS A8N-E a good board overall?

Im getting it, and i want to know if anyone here has it and if they could rate it. Is there anything i should know about, such as ram problems (ex. the dfi and corsair vs). Is there something that i should know special about this board or anything of the sort? Are there any general problems/downsides?? Thanks.

Corsair VS should work - download the manual and it should say that in the QVL (Qualified Vendor List)

Downsides: No Firewire, Loud NB fan (the Revision 2.0 of this board is quiet 😀!)
Positives: Stable board, plenty of features, can be moddded to SLI, cheap ($120)

heh, the loud fan wont bother me, and i can get a firewire card so... im set. hm, im gettin a x800xl so no point in moddin to a sli board.

I woudln't get a Firewire card 😛.Waste of PCI slot. Get an Audigy 2, it comes with firewire AND you get a sound card all in the same PCI slot.

heh, i never even use firewire 😱. and my dads 2.8 p4c has a firewire card, so ill just use that if i ever need to do anything.

I second that motion, but Texas Instruments is a better for 1394 than Creative. So if you are a heavy 1394 User then get a dedicated TI based card if not then Stick With the audigy.

I think this is the better board, Asus A8N SLI Premium. With a PCI-e X4 slot and two X16 slots. The X4 Slot will give you better upgradebility when it comes to high speed PCI cards like Drive Controllers.

im buying the desktop bundle from amd at the techtour, for 250 flat i get a a64 3200+ venice, the a8n-e retail, and windows professional x64 oem, so i cant change the board 🙁.

That's odd, it seems that Newegg doesn't sell the A8N-E.

I wonder why that is?

Neither does Chief Value.

Board's so popular that it's out of stock.
Edit: A new revision came out, with a quieter fan 🙂.

Sure, the NOISE might not bother you. But the fan has a habit of failing on people, and the fan runs so fast (8K RPM) that it actually HEATS UP the northbridge - people have reported temps of 1-2C *cooler* with the Zalman passive heatsink 😱.

For how much money?

I bet I can put it toghether for the same or less and give you the Premium Asus Motherboard.

Ok then show us some links and benchmarks, back that statement up with some facts.

Do you have a link to where I can get one? Does it include RAM? You may not be able to change the board, but it will fetch a nice coin on ebay.

Heck, you could easily take this whole bundle and get $300-400 for every thing if you sold it separately. Windows XP PRO easy fetches $100-150 and another 125-175 for the motherboard. Sell the CPU for $140. Take the cash and get a better system. While you are at it get two of them and sell them both!
