i was leaning towards the alpha pal6035 over the fop32 but have seen a few comments about the alpha being heavier. people said that you might damage the core if you move the case around a lot just because of its size. also which would cool better? alpha with a delta fan or a fop32 with a ys tech fan?

It's not that heavy :)
It's lighter than the SECC cartridges with heat sinks attached on Slot 1 boards, don't worry about that. :D

The 6035 cools better with the delta than the F0P32-1, however the F0P38 which is the F0P32-1 with a delta fan is cooler than the Alpha by 2 to 3 C. It's also cheaper than the Alpha $8 to $10, depending on where you get it.

thanks!
hmmm so now its either the alpha or the fop38
they should be just as loud right? since they both are using delta fans?
i hope the fans in my sx1030 case will cover it

They are loud, no doubt about it.
But great performance comes with a price.
I have 4 Black Delta's in the same room, it's something you get used to :)

I prefer the arctic silver over that goop that came with my Alpha. The goop, sorry to say, was just really hard to put on =) Really liquidy. Another point would be that the Arctic silver is a rather large tube of grease. You can use it for like 10-20 heatsink jobs. So, if you build lots of systems... or just put lots of heatsinks on.. =) (haha, I saw once a heatsink on a SOUNDCARD =) ) or just want that 1 or 2 C difference, then I say go with the arctic silver.

I use the arctic silver exclusely.
The reason is that the artic never seems to dry out.
It retains it's properties really well.

how do you keep the artic silver? do you just cap the tube or put it in a container?

Artic Silver comes in a tube.
You can buy it now in 2 ways that I know of, for small and large contact areas.
The tube has a cap :)

Get the small contact area's tube for both Duron's and Tbirds.

I have an Alpha P3125 (HUGE Slot-1 cooler with dual 60mm Sunon fans) on my old P3-450 and I lug that thing around to LAN parties all the time with NO PROBLEMS. The hedgehog is probably the heaviest of the bunch, it's pure copper from what I understand. I ordered the Alpha PAL6035 for my Thunderbird 1.1GHz - as I see it, I'd rather have a properly cooled CPU than one with a lightweight HS/F combo. Go for Alpha heatsinks, they make the best in my opinion. The P3125 impressed me and I will buy Alpha until I see something better out there.
