Is the Abit KT7 RAID problematic?

I have an Asus A7V and I'm fed up with its stability problems. I was wondering if anyone has any complaints about the abit KT7 RAID

The Abit k7t raid will do you good if you get one that works correctly...
Get the msi k7t pro2a instead.

Abit has always had quality issues, but they've improved quite a bit, although still very inconsistent compare to MicroStar and Asus. I would get a MicroStar board if you want quality and troublefree.

I have had a KT7 raid, KT7 and a A7V within the last few weeks. The Asus really needs to be worked on to get and keep it stable. Both of my Abit boards seemed bullet-proof. I never have any crashes with the Abit boards so at this time I don't know how I could get more stable by going to Microstar. That would kinda be like trying to improve on perfection.

All I can say about ANY KT133 board is MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GOOD RAM!!!

My Samsung -GH was causing major problems, now when I turned down the speed, it works great.
Plus my Duron isn't the best overclocker either.

Well, I took out my TV card on the A7V and its been stable, knock on wood.

It probably had an IRQ conflict with my video card. However, I did have to tone down all the bios settings for it to be stable.

Im still using a P3V4X with an old P3-600. And I've built a number of Athlon systems based on Abit, Asus and MicroStar, and MicroStar was the best in my experience.

Why dont you guys check this out before declaring me BSing.

I have looked at johnnyguru's "review" and could point you to at least two recent other reviews where the reviewer's did not use "cherry picked boards", and in one case tested the board for 2 weeks prior to posting the review. I will also quote and agree with what HardOCP stated about the "review"

I think I saw ABIT behind the grassy knoll...nope nope...that is them in the book depository window. Do go over and read the "review", it is hard to think that any objectivity went into the evaluation after the author explains his issues with ABIT on the first page. I enjoy reading SystemLogic and they are on my favorites list for sure, but if the author is not a fan on product reviews, why is he even writing one. I think the Author has a great deal of experience with ABIT and should lay it to them in a full-blown editorial, but not a review that has no choice but to cast a negative light on their product. It sounds like he has some great first hand evidence that just might get the noted problem some attention.

I would put much more credibility in the recent review at The Tech Report than JohnnyGuru's.

Before running down a board that you have no first hand experience with, at least try one yourself to base an opinion. Hell, I use many different boards for customer builds, and like a lot of brands. I have used and liked many MSI Slot A and P3 boards. As a matter of fact, I have a Pro2A on the way to do my own comparison with. I actually try boards before I post opinions on them. If the MSI is a better performer, I will be the first to admit it, if not, I will damn sure let people know. Check around the forums, and you will find the Pro2A's having issues also, ranging from a couple of RMA's to one that had pins missing on the floppy controller. Does it make it a bad board? No. ALL boards will have some problems.

Anyway, this is not intended as a flame. Just facts. Happy Holidays!

Both the KT7 and KT7 RAID are good boards until you try to fill them up. I have had lengthy bouts with both boards trying to get them to run properly with all 6 PCI slots filled and the AGP slot. Usually after swapping cards for a while everything will run ok. Both boards also seem to be a bit picky which DIMM slots are filled. Sometimes the boards will refuse to boot if I change cards, or IDE cables or whatever, and the problem is usually the memory. After swapping DIMMS around to different slots it will eventually work. I don't know why the boards do that, but once you get them up and running, there are zero stability problems.

Im not going to say much, but all you're trying to tell me is that the MSI won the KT133 crown for nothing. And no, dont even try to convince me that all boards are as problematic as Abits.

Note, just take a look at Anandtech's Buyer's Guide, look at what they put in their high end SOHO, Gaming, and Professional boxes.

i had the kt7 and even after following all the faqs I could find I had tons of stupid problems with fresh os installs using the same parts Im using now and have been for over a week with the msi proa2 board. same cpu, same locked bridges, etc. I had hardware problems that started for no reason when shutting down, fans not stopping, usb cutting out after the computer had been on for a period of time, cpu not allowing certain multipliers, and other things. I trolled forums and faqs trying all sorts of things until I get fed up. I had so many problems with popular name brand parts I almost have to wonder if their was some wierd hardware problem although through an rma I was sent back my original motherboard and already sold it. I have been on my msi board for over a week now with the same parts and all my issues were cleared up right off the bat. one thing was the cpu. I didn't touch the bridges and its been all good thus far. easy to setup, compatability is great, etc.

I just can't see not recommending the msi board especially when reading of all the wierd problems on message boards people have had with the abit board.
