As Sector Zero has said, the 9600 pro has equivalent power to a GeForce4Ti 4400 without AA/AF. Blows it away with AA/AF on. Your 8500 is probably equivalent to a GeForce 2 Ti or Ultra. Maybe even the GF3 Ti200 but thats pushing it.

A retail 8500 will eat a GF2 for lunch. Using the latest catalyst drivers its performance is on par with that of a 4200.

yes indeed. I know the 8500 is not the latest and greates, but geforce 2 :p pfff

Mine over clocks the below figures but have not tried pushing past them yet, as everytime my pc crashes due to an overclock I have to re install XP (CPU overclock that is, just don't want to find out if it happens with a crash on the graphics card aswell)

Ehh .. my 9600 Pro is overclocked to 530/330 right now as opposed to 400/300 stock. I dont want to push it without a probe there to moniter temps ... i'm confident it can go higher cause it hasnt offered any resistance so far. Right off the bat i pushed it to 500/330, then 530/330, looped 3DMark 2001 and ran 3DMark 2003 a couple times ... Aquamark 3 a few times and was happy with it :p

Well excuse the hell outta me for trying to help. .
If I had inaccurate info, just tell me so. I can deal with being wrong.

Thanks to all of you .

Remember when the difference was just choosing between a GeForce 2 GTS or Ultra, or a Radeon 32MB DDR or 64DDR VIVO... Now, it's all so convoluted by so many factors.

Remember? Hell, I'm still using my 64 VIVO in my main system. I play GTA3, BF1942, Tiger Woods, and RTCW: ET at 1024x768 with a couple of hiccups (mostly GTA3 texture issues), but for the most part, it hasn't ever let me down running at that resolution.

Now, of course, with HL2 coming out, I'm strongly considering the same upgrade (9600 Pro), but the rest of the system is of that same generation (KK266, Athlon 1.4, 512MB), so I suspect that it's more like an entire system upgrade for me about now... :D :disgust: I'm waiting to see actual benchies on shipping HL2 code with a broader range of systems before I make any decisions, though.

Yep... to tell ya the honest truth, I prefer my 8500 LE to the 4200 I used to have.. that's why I still have my 8500 LE :)

great video card for the price... highly recommended for budget gamers!
