is the 6800 GT quiet?

i am planning to get a 6800 gt but was wondering the noise level of the fan? my system is runnin quiet that the loudest thing is my pny geforce 4 ti4200 - and looking to upgrade both power and noise 🙂 thx

Wait and see how well the next VGA Silencer revisio does, and Zalman's ZM80D-HP. Some of them should be fine, but no way to know until we actually see them in action...and read good reviews 🙂.

I have a GT on order and I;m expecting it to be loud. It's a BFG, I dunno how loud their cards were in the past but the one I oredered looks like a reference so I'm assuming it'll be noisier then my nearly silent system. If that's the case, I have various old cpu heatsinks lying around I can mod and slap on there with a quiet 60mm.

I ordered a BFG Geforce 6800 GT and I dont care how loud it will be as long as its not too loud becouse my comp is already kinda loud, I got a total amount of 12 fans in my case.

i have a 6800GT (BFG) and the only thing i hear coming from my case are the 2 fans in the front. but then again my case has insulated top and side panels for noise reduction... still, it doesn't make any roaring noises during game load or anything.

I doubt anyone who cares about a quiet PC will be happy with the noise of a 6800 or X800. GPUs are getting to the point where they need as much or more cooling as a CPU.

Arctic Cooling is supposed to bring out VGA silencers for the 6800 and X800 series of cards. I haven't seen any details yet.

And yeah. 12 fans? LOL!! Does it double as a vacuum cleaner?

It isnt as loud as a vacum cleaner...lol But its just kinda noisy. I got that Zalman CPU cooler too.

Why don't you just remove the side of the case 😛

Mines pretty quiet. Compared to my 5900U, its deadly silent in games 😉

You can look at my rig for my setup. The only things worth mentioning are my case (Coolermaster ATC-201 4x80mm ~2000rpm casefans) and I just put a Swiftec MCX64-V on my A64. It has a 80mm 2700rpm fan, so its pretty quiet.

hmm okay - yeah i have really high standards - the loudest thing in my computer right now is the PNY ti4200 in my system - fans are running at 5v and everything is quiet as hell - i am thinking of getting the 6800 gt but i guess i have do some more noise work if its as loud as it suppose to be 🙁

According to GamePC's review of the BFG 6800GT, the fan is loud compared to the Radeon X800 Pro. I am debating between the eVGA 6800GT and Radeon X800XT.

Anyone have experience with the noise on the eVGA 6800GT ?

Im really into silent computing as well. Don't get a 6800GT if you value silence. If you do get one, your best hope is that the new NV4 artic silencers are silent as they don't have a switch to force the cooler into high or low mode and rely off the thermal sensors on the chip, I was very dissapointed when I heard that 🙁
