or is this just a dumb question? new egg had the powercolor 1900XT for 489, and I bought it, over the 256mg GTX...was that a bad idea?

Yes it is quite a bit better. You made a good choice and as for powercolor, they are fine. They have a lifetime warranty going right now for their cards but I'm not sure if it's a true lifetime warranty or just the lifetime of the product.

Powercolor is fine. You made the right decison. Check out these benchmarks. There are a ton of reviews of the two cards if you have a mind to see the difference.

Yeah, a good choice, you get a much more attractive feature set and superior performance (specially in shader-intensive games), the only drawbacks are the dual slot cooling solution, the power consume and of course ATI CCC, of course, you can always buy an aftermarket cooler and use Omega Drivers with standard CP.

good choice my friend. its just the alround better card.

in the 7800's defense though, the 256mb version has been out a substantial amount of time, so its only right that ATI's latest and greatest puts it in its place. although you dont need to overclock at all, and no offense....you sound like a bit of a n00bcake so overclocking is probably something you should leave for a while till you know more about it.

yeah, It is an NForce4 board, I think it is just a cut down version, no SLI but I can live with that.

It's rumored that RD580 (Ati's newest motherboard) will be released on Feb. 23rd. If you can wait that long I would since it will be a superior chipset. If you can't though and you want to use Crossfire (pairing up two X1900s) later on, then you should get an ATi chipset based board rather than nVidia. If Crossfire doesn't matter to you then stick with what you're getting.

I would have loved to wait exept my wife said to me "You can have 1500.00 for a new computer". to me that ment, "You can buy a new computer, you can have this much money for it, I will be slowly deducting from this amount so you better spend it before I change my mind".
this is what I got;

Gateway 2185 LCD monitor
AMD 3500+ CPU
ASUS A8N5X mobo
PSU
1900XT video card.

as soon as I sell my 6800GT (will be on these forums as soon as this biuld is done) I will buy better ram than the gig I have in this machine.

I am already over my limit by 80.00 cuz the monitor did not come with a DVI cable and I bought San Andreas.

So, thats it, Thats my new biuld. as soon as it is up and stable I will report back as to how I like it.
