Is that Copper or Fiber?

Help me shut down a debate with a co-worker.

Found this PIC of a data center cable disaster on Gizmodo yesterday.

I commented that is a hellova lot of weight in copper.
Co-worker says, "I think that is fiber because we used to use yellow fiber like that"

I think he is nuts. The 'look' of the cable and the way it is laid indicate to me that it has to be copper. As bad as the cable job is, nobody would be so careless with fiber.

Thanks

looks like plain old cat5/e/6 to me.

every fiber cable I've seen (except large bundles) has been flat.

without a doubt that is copper. Yes, yellow is normally single mode fiber but not always. The thickness of the cable gives it away.

It can't be fiber because if so it would be 12 or 24 strand and there just isn't enough room to terminate that given the density shown.

Also given the thickness you can be sure that is category 6.

Which ever it is, I'd hate to be the guy that has to troubleshoot something in that mass of all-yellow wires. Color-coding FTW.

That's what i was telling everyone I showed this pic to. There is no way i would want to do a trace-out on that mess.
