Greeting,

>> WD Caviar 100.0GB EIDE 7200RPM Ultra-ATA/100 Ret Spec Ed w/8MB cache

Does anyone own this drive or recommend this drive? From what I have read that 8mb cache has helped it break some records in the 7200rmp field? I?m looking for a large drive that is, most importantly, reliable and over 80GB. Yes, it?s for porn and that?s why reliability is very critical.

I have been reading a few treads about IBM?s larger drives, sound like they aren?t to dependable when you get to 80GB or higher?
I really don?t mind what brand I buy. Just as long as its fast, reliable and under $350.00. What do you have/suggest?

Thanks everyone!

I own the drive but its sitting in a box right now so obviously I can't speak towards it's reliability or speed.

But Tom'sHardware seems to like it: New Performers From Western Digital

Just so you know the WDs are currently sold OEM only so you just get the drive; no cables, paperwork or setup disks.

And all these models (if sold as an 8MB cache) actually contain the 8MB chip:

WD1000BB-75CHE0
WD1000BB-32CHE0
WD1000BB-00CHE0
WD1000JB

From the WD website I got the impression that only the JB model had the 8 MB cache and actually called New Egg to request an RMA thinking they had sent me the wrong part. A later call to WD confirmed that they're dropping the 8MB chip into 100GB drives under all 4 of these model numbers.

Sure is a lot more cash for only a little bit more cache (6 MB) but I hope I'll find its worth it.
