Is TB faster than Althlon? I am looking at some ad from computer store. Some of the CPU states that it is TB, and some states that is had 200FBS or 266FBS without the TB. For example, k7 Althlon 900 TB OEM $65, k7 Althlon 1GHz 266FSB OEM $89, k7 Althlon 1GHz 200FSB OEM $88, k7 Althlon 1.2GHz 266FSB TB OEM $99, which is the best. Which one give me the best value. And I want a good solid board from Abit, Asus, MSI that allow a support a lot of memory. and it would be good if a board support PC memory, but it is alright if it will support DDR. But don't have to be coexit.

TB is just another name for modern Athlon's. If you see it on the store shelve and they don't say its an Athlon XP, then its a TB. TB is short for Thunder Bird.

Those prices kinda bite anyways...xp 1600+ OR 1500+ can be had right around 100 dollar range anyway...

Thunderbirds are the code name given to the athlon chip to deote the improved cache...Old athlon "classics" had l2 cache that did not run at full clock speed...avoid these at all cost...and yes they are only 200fsb and come in a slot format. There was some thunderbirds made in slot format but since the format is dead and the socket a format is the best upgrade path go with it. The true thunderbirds (socket a) come in bothe 200fsb and 266fsb...the latter being code name "c" chip and the first being "b" chips. Definitely only go with a c chip so you can take advantage of pc2100 (266mhz) ddr ram...

And just so you know, it's Athlon, not Althlon. If they spell it that way at the store I wouldn't buy from them.

I'd go with a 1.4 Ghz TB or XP 1600 for around $110 plus shipping. Obviously, the more you spend the more you get.
