Is Tasker the program I need for this?

So as I have mentioned a few (50 maybe) times or so, I have this weird issue where my phone gives the wrong location when I am at home. I am pretty sure this is never going to get fixed, so I have been doing some playing around. It seems that Google services will get your location using low power mode (WiFi) for most things except for actual GPS tracking, such as using Maps. If I set my location services to only use GPS it seems like my location works correctly. It is sort of a pain to always have to remember to change my location mode every time I get home and then again back to high accuracy (what a joke that name is) when I want to use GPS tracking.

I have never used Tasker, but it seems like this is something I could automate. Before I drop the cash on it though I was hoping those with experience using the program could tell me if I am on the right track.

Basically, I would like to setup a task that changes my location services mode depending on whether or not I am connected to my home WiFi.

I use Tasker for this. I normally keep the GPS set to low power, but have a take profile that switches it to high accuracy when the phone connects to my cats bluetooth, and another when I open my golf GPS app.

I believe that you need to have root in order for tasker to be able to adjust the good settings though.

Edit: yes just checked my profile, you need root and the secure settings plugin

Thanks for the information. Root is not an issue thankfully.

Without knowing what steps you have already taken I would just throw out that I am almost positive I have read of this same problem being caused by a configuration problem with the cellular tower you are connected to. Do you know of anyone else on the same service provider seeing similar behavior? If you haven't done so you may get results with a call to customer service and then ask for escalation.

I am still trying to lock down exactly what is happening, but it appears that my location is only reported incorrectly when I am getting my location from WiFi, so I don't think the cell tower is the issue. I have even changed wireless routers since this started happening and I still get my location reported wrong, just when I am at home. If I go outside and lose my WiFi connection my location is reported correctly.

Uggg, that's a new one. If you google search from a computer on your network does it misidentify your location as well? It definitely sounds like google services has your external IP incorrectly flagged in some fashion.

Random searching got me this but if you have dealing with it for a bit its probably something you have already done-

If I go to Google Maps from a computer it seems to get the correct location. In fact, if I go to Maps on my phone my location gets reset to where I really am. It is only when my phone does another low power location request that I get reported incorrectly. If I only allow location services to use GPS it seems to fix the problem. I have to go to Maps once to get my correct location, but then it sticks. This thing is so hard to track down, I barely know what is going on .. lol. My wife told me that she gets reported in the same wrong location when she is a couple of miles from home, so perhaps it is something with Verizon after all.
