Is Tactical Ops (UT Mod) worth it?

I've been an avid counter-strike player for awhile now, and I'm wondering if it's worth the large download (over 130 megs for beta 2, then the update for beta 2) on my oc56k. 130 Megs is about 8-9 hours, and by FTP I guess I can do this in two nights of sleeping if all goes well. Just wondering if it's different from counter-strike, or if it looks better, or what, cuz the weapons are relatively the same and the idea's are the same. Thx for input

I'm an avid Tac Ops player and in my opinion the game is much better than counterstrike. The severs are pretty well protected from cheaters (unlike Counterstrike), the game looks great (does utilize the UT engine) and there are allways a ton of players playing Tac Ops at all hours of the night. The servers are allways full!!!

Ever since the upgrade to 2.0 (or 2.1) Tac Ops has gotten great praises from the mod community. It's kinda like a Counterstrike copy cat but it's more action orriented than Counterstrike! Also, some of the maps look incredible!!! If you have the hardware bump up the resolution (1024 or higher) and you will be treated to a visual feast!

Also, the audio is done very well. You can hear the differences between the different type of weapons and such.. Great use of audio...

When I downloaded Tac Ops this summer it took me 8 hours! I just did it at night! I went to bed and when i woke up the download was allmost completed. I took it off my system though, so I haven't played in awhile. once I get my new system I will be playing Tac Ops, so look out =)

Finally, if you subscribe to PC gamer they put the Tac Ops mod on one of there CD's. I have that CD, so I can just do a quick install

After playing both, i prefer sounter-strike over TacOps. The two mods "feel" much different from each other.

The player models need a bit more refining in TacOps, seem too stiff. But it's a great mod. I liked Infiltration a lot also.

I'm glad that they've cracked down on cheaters tecumseh. Nothing takes the fun out of a game more than cheaters. I imagine it depends on what server you are playing on though. There are some good CS servers out there. I was playing on a server(CS) last night and NONE of the opposing team ever died and my team kept getting head shotted while inside a building by someone outside.

Anyway, it's a pretty fun mod if you play on good servers.

Tac Ops is definitely worth it, IMO. Graphics, sound, maps, and weapons models are fantastic.
