is Syncmax memory okay, or waste of $$?

I noticed on Pricewatch.com that I can get a 256mb stick of Syncmax pc1066 rdram (184pin) for $91 from here:

Anyone have experience with Syncmax memory? I can't find any reviews on the net. My guess is that they are an OEM supplier.

I will not be OC'ing the memory, so overclockability isn't an issue for me. I just don't want to get buggy ram.

Thx, and Happy New Year.

IIRC, Syncmax is pretty low grade stuff which i've only seen in older Compaq systems. I tried to pull and use sticks from systems at work on several occassions and it just wound up giving me headaches... even when it did work, it had trouble running at stock speeds and overclocking or running aggressive timings was totally out of the question. IMO, you'd be much better served buying something like this. Samsung and Googlegear are both pretty well-trusted names around here, and that it's $96 with free 2 day shipping makes it well worth the extra five bucks if you ask me.

Yep.. low-grade modules. *I* would only use/sell Samsung. Samsung should only be $5.00 - $10.00 more..

Bad memory is nasty, because if it is causing a particular problem (in my case, would corrupt/stop a winxp clean installation) you rarely think it is the ram (now I am a more seasoned veteran lol).

Thanks for the info.

I've shopped at Googlegear several times, and have been looking at the Samsung memory for a while now, so I'll most likely go with them.

I am going to wait and see if I can find any post-holiday deals that might save me a little $$. The visa is still smoking now from buying myself a new desktop and the Mrs. a new laptop :)
