Mercury did not pollute at these levels for thousands of years.

Or was there a prehistoric Wooly Salmon that that added humans to it's diet?

Do any bears die of Mercury poisoning or have poor health from eating salmon?

It sure does; thats why I am hoping that the levels that some salmon or swordfish may carry are not enough to have any adverse effects on humans or for that matter, bears health.

Ocean caught wild Salmon is considered healthy. Recent research has shown very high amounts of toxins in farm produced Salmon unsuitable for human consumption. Most of the Salmon bought at the store is farm raised unless explicitly labeled. There is big hoopla over this and for now farm raised fish is still available at your neighborhood market.
Be careful of what you eat.

Thats what I'm saying, but sword fish and salmon absorb mercury pollution along with I believe PCB's which in high enough levels can have very bad effects on people. Mercury for instance settles into your bones. I have read conflicting views, so I was wondering if anyone had more knowledge of this subject than myself.

Zoiks; I too have read that salmon farmers have managed to pollute their stock by feeding the fish polluted food.

Swordfish, Tuna etc are fish usually found in deep water. Those kind of fish are not affected by the mercury/PCB runoff usually affects fish in bays, deltas, rivers and lakes.
Swordfish and Tuna absorb mercury from the atmosphere that is released by industry pollution. All shellfish and regular fish have traces of mercury but larger amounts may target the human nervous system where usually nursing/pregnant women are mostly affected. Thats because young children and unborn babies have weaker immunity systems.
Here in the SF bay, there are fish that you should not eat period that are caught from certain parts. There are advisories all over the place where any adult should not eat more than 2 eight ounce meals of fish caught from the bay every month.
