Is sunlight bad for LCD's?

I have my LCD monitor near a window, and im wondering if it's bad for it? Also I use my laptop outside alot, and I'm just wondering if it's okay to be out in the sun with the LCD?

I've not heard any specific reports; but heat+UV isn't really good for anything electronic.

Direct sunlight for prolonged periods would probably ruin your LCD, but occasional, or light sunlight probably won't hurt it too much.

Direct sunlight can degrade most hydrocarbons and that is mainly what the soup in the LCD screen is made of. Not to mention that it could yellow the plastic face of the screen. So when outdoors, try to keep the screen from direct sunlight. Shouldn't be bothered much by indirect (reflected) light.

I believe i have seen anti UV shaded covers for screen that you can use while laptopping outside....sorta like LCD sunglasses...looking for a link.....

main problem I see is the heat, LCD's also produce heat, so the heat has to be dissapated, direct sunlight for prolonged periods can cause overheating, the same goes for CRT's

you should be fine indoors. uv rays are mostly blocked by glass(that's why people that sit near windows all day dont tan). the only problem indoors is IR rays. if yuor lcd overheats, it will permanantly brown and become useless.
