Is Steve Nash overrated?

No, it's a poll of around 125 sports writers/reporters that get to vote for the MVP.

Personally I think they should include the ballots of GM's and Head Coaches for about 50% of the votes.

Ok, so it's still a bunch of people who are more knowledgeable than us since their livelihood depend on it right? That was the point I was trying to make. I like the idea of including GM and Head Coaches.

He's so much more then just talented though, do you even watch him play? Talent doesn't even begin to describe his play on the court, he transforms the entire team just by being the ball handler.

That's what a top point guard does by default, responsible for running the offense and getting everyone good shots. That does not automatically make a top point guard the top player in the league.

Nash also transforms their defense, essentially turning it from a man-to-man defense to a zone in order to 'accomodate' his inequities.

Most teams that rely on a solid point guard are inept without him. And its not the most valuable player on a team, its the most valuable player in the league.

I think its more because Cuban added more dept into the team compared to when it was the Dirk, Nash, and Finley trio. Now the team is loaded with various experienced role players and not to mention the addition of Avery Johnson and the fact Josh Howard is playing like the all star he is.

So you're saying the top point guard in the league can't be a 3-time MVP winner?

At his size he does all he can on defense, and as you know it's all about how much effort you put into it while on D, I see him putting lots of effort into it he's just not as athletic as others. He also has a back problem, yet he's still out there taking charges (most on the team), trying to make key steals (watch that 2nd OT against Dallas?), and still finds enough energy to do it night-in, night-out while playing on a team that demands you never slow down and makes you think on your feet.

Id attribute that moreso to Avery Johnson than Nash leaving. They were in a relative funk when Nelson was still there, then when Avery took over they took off. He finally got Dirk to stop being such a pansy and drive inside, and got him to play some D as well. I just wonder if Nash were still on board, would Avery have the same effect on Nash and if they'd be a helluva lot better than they are now.

Nash is one hell of a player. he's really fun to watch. I think Kobe is, right now, the best basketball player in the world. Dirk should be the frontrunner for the MVP. But no, i don't think Nash is underrated. He's an amazing point guard, and right now, the best PG in the world.

Yep I agree with the sentiment here. Nash is not overrated, and makes the Suns a competitive team that is among the most fun to watch.

Dwayne Wade did rather well on the defensive end before he went out.

Kobe is actually a pretty good defensive player; however, he has steadily lost his defensive explosiveness over time. Tim Duncan is also a great defensive/offensive player.
