Is Steam the laggiest piece of software on your PC?

My steam feels quite snappy. It's running on an HDD, but it feels quick, never any lag. The updates and game download speeds are crap here though. Like 3.6 when I have 45.

I dont really notice lag, but it is buggy sometimes. When I try to launch Steam, it says it is already running, but it wont appear on the screen. I have to go into task manager and close out the steam client manually, then it will launch.

Have you checked the little app pocket near the time and speaker settings? When you minimize it it closes it's own window and goes down there.

I'm not sure if I glossed over it, but all these posts and not a single person comments on Steam's exorbitant login time? Steam seems to take around 15-30 seconds to log into my account regardless of which machine I'm using where Origin takes a few seconds at most. Other than that, Steam runs fine, and by the way, so does iTunes. 😛

Steam the laggiest stuff on my comp?not by a long way.the free shit i get with my isp that is masquerading as a internet security suit.

I am currently switching over from an E6600 to an i5 4430, but to be honest I have not noticed steam to be laggy. I did set it up to not boot with windows however, and used task manager to kill it if it was taking net resources while i was streaming. (cheap internet)

Really guys? You think Steam is "snappy" ???

I have it set to start up with Windows and it is *always* the last program to load and it isnt even close.

Origin loads much faster by comparison.

Nope feels really fast actually and its even sitting on my HDD at the moment. Steam for OSX is still slow though and even crashes when trying to exit.

Steam is routinely the laggiest piece of software I've ever used.
Most definitely. This DRM kludge is slow even on my system. The interface always feels heavy and bloated, and startup times are never fast.

Though I dislike clients in general, Origin/Uplay definitely feel faster and more responsive.

Did anyone who uses offline mode happen to notice the removal of this prompt some time last year (and then it's reintroduction):
Yes, and I actually thought a Valve employee might've read our thread were we complained about it, and had passed on feedback to the mothership.

Ah well, it was good while it lasted. :awe:

I haven't been able to launch HL:Source for at least a month:

Apparently it's related to the Linux crap they've got going on right now, and you have to opt into a beta to fix it, but this breaks other parts of the game.

It's extremely poor service for a paying Windows customer to be subjected to problems related to beta testing on Linux.

i wouldnt say its the laggiest piece of software i have, but it likes to take its time to load pages from time to time

like going into the store front page, or going into the friends activity facebook-lite page

btw, offtopic... im the only one that spends more time watching the activity page for friendlist screenshots, comment, group announcement and stuff Than watching real life friends activities on facebook?

Last year I was very annoyed by how slow Steam logged in. I knew it wasn't always like this, but I thought it was the whole bunch of games that I installed that caused this. Login process kept getting longer and longer until it took as long as 5 minutes until it's ready (I even mentioned it in one of the posts here). About a week later, my hard drive (where I installed Steam, fortunately not the boot drive) died and took everything with it.

So for those of you who are having an extremely slow Steam login problem, check your drive!

Origin - meh
uplay - hate (Disappearing saved games)
Steam - No issues outside of damn update it does every time you start it up.

My experience is ,

Steam-No issues in general

Origin-good in general but had the odd crash on launch ie ME3 but pretty rare.

Uplay- Proabably th most buggy of the three,M&M X Legacy cloud save games you have to wait a few mins before saving or keep trying after exiting the game, they should really fix that issue.
