can't understand why they make you connect to a website to play a game you bought in a retail store. Once you have loaded it on your PC why make it a requirement to be online and for the Steam site to be up in order to play?

Its a convenience thing, I no longer have to go to crappy sites that want to charge me for patches, or even keep up with news that there are patches available. I dont have to maintain the cd or remember what i did with the key.

It does suck when it goes down, but i can honestly say ive only been affected by an outage one or two times since ive been a member and that has been since 2004. I personally feel the good things outweigh the bad.

I am glad to say that Ive never used Stream. I never will either. I like using my DVD drive to load games, not have a 3rd party intrude into my life for any purpose whatsoever.

You missed-out on Half Life 2 and Portal? I feel bad for you.

Anyway, in those cases, Steam wasn't really a "third party."
