Is Sprint's LG Optimus S phone strictly 3g?

I'm not too familiar with how it all works. I know that 3g is everywhere and that speeds are fine and 4g being newer and faster are only in major cities such as LA etc. Does it mean if I travel with the phone to LA it will jump to Sprint's 4g network or is it strictly a 3g phone?

If it's a 4G phone, it'll definitely say it in the name. It's still a good low-end Android phone but no 4G. There is a cheap 4G Android phone that just came out for Sprint if I remember correctly. Just forget the name of it right now.

Isn't the Nexus S 4G really cheap now on Sprint? No "originally" cheap phone can really match that.

I was just curious because my sister is giving me her LG Optimus S. It will be my first android phone and I just didn't know if it was 4g capable or just 3g.
