is SpeedFan accurate??

I have two harddrives. One Quantum LCT-20 30GB drive that is about a year old. I use this drive a lot, since this drive holds all my music, video, and downloaded files. It is not the boot drive though.

My second drive is a new (less than a month old) Maxtor ATA-133 60GB drive, partitioned and split in half. The first partition is my boot drive, and holds win2000 pro, and all my programs.

In SpeedFan software, under S.M.A.R.T. tag, I will look at the current conditions of the drives. I am worried, cause it will show the new Maxtor drive having a good performance, but only half bar full for the Fitness. The Quantum drive actually has higher drive Fitness, about 2/3's full on both fitness and performance bars.

Should I be worried about this? That my brand new drive is showing a minimal fitness condition??

Is there any other accurate freeware that will show what conditions my harddrives are in???

Thank you.
Slim

Search for "speedfan" on Google.com, and SpeedFan Home Page will be your first result. It tells you your temperatures, fan speeds, voltages, and your HDD S.M.A.R.T. conditions.

But can someone help me regarding my original post? I don't want my HDD to die in like couple months.....

Thanks again,
Slim

hmm, im not sure how accurate it is?

it lists my 13gb 7200 maxtor as full in both performance and fitness, if thats anything to go by.

The thing is my Maxtor is less than a month old......so i don't think there is any reason why it shouldn't be anything less than full bars on Fitness and Performance....
