Is speakers on Laptop a waste of space?

It just doesn't make alot of sence. I would rather use the space(precious on a lappy) for other more critical items like additional batter packs and other... A headphone out jack would suffice for most users who wants sound and those who truely NEED "multimedia" usually rely on stand alone speakers not cheap speakers in laptops. Basically, at home you'll rather use a real box speaker and on the road(ie say Mcdonalds) a headphone is more appropriate.

Anyways, my rant got started when I saw the PowerBook G4(17") at Fry's. I found the integrated speakers(HUGE) to be a waste of space, and ugly on what is clearly a stunning laptop.
 
I'd kind of agree with you on that. I'd rather have a fullsize keyboard or something close to it than speakers that should like my ass at 2AM.
