Is Sony's Trinitron better than Mitsu's DiamonTron tube?

Ive got the Mitsu PRO 900U. I love it, I am horibly unparital to Sony due to them being almost nothing but a label. When I was looking for a monitor I was looking at Sony, Mitsu, Iiyama, and Samsung. The Sony's were a bit more and like I said Im not a Sony fan. The Iiyama seemed to me to be the one I dearly wanted, but it was another $50-100 more than the Mitsu. I eventually "settled" for the Mitsu due to it being cheaper than the Sony and Iiyama and having an awesome picture. I did not look too much into the Samsung's because I could not find any locally to look at like the others.

I think you will be happy with any of them, while the all have their flaws, they are all exceptionally beatuiful monitors.

I have a Samsung 900NF and I cannot say enough good things about it! Its probably the best computer related purchase I have made recently. I really don't see any difference between Diamondtron and Trinitron. Its almost like the P3 vs TBird debate - you can get the same for less. Some people will always pay more "because its an Intel", same with Sony monitors. By the same token of course those with Sony monitors are going to rate them as the best. If you've payed more for the most expensive monitor you're going to want to know it is also the best - but that's a matter of opinion.
 
Well, actually I bought my IBM P96 used, so I only had to pay about $200 for it. Plus the black color matches my black Antec SX1030B case.🙂

Sony's video products are damn expensive, and yes most do look very good, but they are expensive.

I thought the Iiyama was a much better product than the Sony, and thought the Mitsu and Sony to be about equal. Every name brand has a price tag for their label, and Sony has a very large tag for that little piece of plastic which says 'Sony'.

Of course there is Sony's audio department which is quite pathetic. Their speakers sound horible, and their receivers are mediocre at best. They then stick their Sony label on them and charge well more than they are worth.


and the "sony's were a bit more" part was refering to price difference between the monitors. At the time, I don't know about now, the Sony was the most expensive of the lot.
 
Yea, what about Iiyama then? Their prices are as high as Sony's and you're not blaming them for it, doesnt sound fair to me.
 
In the world of TV there is no denying that its worth paying more and going for a Sony. There is no comparison there, in my opinion.

However - in the world of monitors its a very different story, there are PLENTY of cheaper options which are just as good as Sony, in my opinion.

So I do kind of agree with mindless here.

hmm.....since when iiyama use trinitron? I definitely hope not, or I will have to return my Pro 501A.
 
LXi, you're telling me you don't think Sony charges extra just for their name? If iiyama does it, fine, since they only do monitors (plus, they don't sell nearly as many). But Sony does everything, and they charge extra on everything with their name on it. As for fairness, well, there are a lot of companies that overcharge, but I hope you don't expect us to list every one every time just for the sake of fairness.

Timekeeper, iiyama uses DiamondTron NF tubes, not Trinitron. Check their website.
 
Sony does charge for their name. Even though I do like and own some of their products, I find in general they overcharge on all their products, even if it is not really good. ( ahem speakers)

We're only talking about monitors here. No I dont deny Sony charges more for their name, but its not very fair to blame them for it when the others are doing it as well.

LXi: I have an HP p920 monitor. It's has a 19&quot; Diamondtron NF CRT and it's advertised on the box and on the literature as having a &quot;Super Fine Stripe pitch (0.24mm) Dot Pitch&quot;.

FWIW, I really like my DiamondTron screen. I have a 21&quot; Sony Trinitron at work (0.24&quot; dot pitch). Aside from the obvious differences in screen size, I personally can't tell the differences by looking at a small section of the screen.

I have a Mitsu 900U and really like it. At work we have a bunch of differernt brands. Sony, NEC, Viewsonic, Samsung. To me, all the AG monitors look really good. I dont see a lot of difference between the Diamondtron and Trinitron tubes. Get a good name brand of either type. The only complaints I see on this board is with some of the KDS products. Some love 'em. Some don't.
 
I have a Dell P991 (FD Trinitron) and absolutely love it. It's one of the highest rated monitors ever reviewed.

If you want the best bang for your buck I'd suggest looking at the KDS AV195TF or Samsung 900NF.

If you decide to buy from Onvia.com make sure to read their newly revised strict return policy otherwise you will get burned if you have to ship back the monitor. Also a good solid warranty is important (like the KDS 3 years KARES warranty).
 
Lxi breathe life from these posts/thread, if there were no monitors he would be still a Junior Member (well, if there were no monitors there won't be forums in the first place right? 😛 )

LOL... I guess you can read my mind? Wow gee when did I stick my hand into Sony's ass. Dude, if you dont know what you're talking about, shut up and dont even talk. Iiyamas charge as much as Sonys, and while you agree both of them look better than the others, so its fair that Iiyama can charge more for their label and Sony cannot? Listen to your own logic.

For your information, Im a Samsung zealot, I dont like people telling some contradicting statements, you're very easily offended when others question your point of view.
