Is some new, awesome processor just on the horizon?

I'm really, really wanting to go dual-core and I have the opportunity to get a new setup for myself and repay my mother-in-law with my old Sempron754 system.

I'm on a very tight budget, but am willing to wait a month or so if it means some great new options will be open to me!

Note: I WANT DUAL-CORE!!
Was all set on the 805 except it runs so terribly hot.... the 930 65nm chip is only $80C more (vs. $65 for a Typhoon HS/F + $150 805) so I was seriously considering that route.

I'm hearing bits and pieces about an Intel Conroe the doesn't look too expensive and should be much cooler.

Any cheaper AMD X2's on the way in 1-2 months?

Any awesome new chipset on the horizon, like ATI's RS690 (with X700 IGP!) that's worth waiting for?

I'm getting a really itchy trigger finger, but I can only upgrade once in a blue moon or the wife will kill me. 😉 I also have to do it on a tight budget, so even the X2 3800+ is too expensive for me to justify.

Thanks, guys.... talking about it keeps me from buying a while longer. 😉

Some of the lower-end Conroe chips are projected to be relatively cheap, if you can spend $250 or so I think that can get you in the door for one of the lower models (which should still be quite a bit faster than an 805, I imagine). As far as cheaper AMD dual core chips, I'd honestly be surprised if prices dropped any on those. If you can only upgrade once in a while, I think it's definitely worth waiting to see what prices for the lower Conroe models look like...

Ohhh.... the Crossfire one? I've heard, but didn't pay much attention because it didn't have the exciting IGP I was hoping for. That and those boards are all REALLY expensive.

Still... worth looking at. 🙂
