Is SMC a pyramid scheme/scam?

My girlfriend got involved with SMC a few months before we started dating. Basically, she was unhappy with them, sent back their products and paid a fee that they required from her. She tried continuously to cancel her subscription, but they kept putting her on hold indefinitely, and when she could get a hold of someone they told her that she could not cancel her subscription for 30 days.

About 2 years later we're getting harassing letters from a "credit agency" (the return address is a PO Box). Any legal types have any information on these guys? Can we file a lawsuit for harassment/fraud or a case with the BBB?

If the issue is that they claim she owes them money, then you need to deal with the laws regarding debt collection. Creditboards.com's credit forum has plenty of stickied threads to learn from. Your gf should pull her credit reports from annualcreditreport.com and see if SMC or their collection agency has put a black mark on her record.
