Is Slimport good for gaming?

Is the experience of playing games on a Nexus 4, using a wireless controller while outputting to a 1080P TV, comparable to a real console?

Some reviews on the internet say there is no perceivable lag between user input and picture, but Brian's review of the Analogix SlimPort clearly shows that there is lag. Has anyone tried to play fast paced games like Modern Combat 4 or NOVA 3 with the above setup?

Do you recommend it? Or should I pass on the SlimPort setup and wait for Ouya to arrive for inexpensive console gaming?

I would wait for the Ouya, even then most of these games look and feel the best on a phone, blow them up on your HDTV you are going to notice the complex shadows and what not a lot more. If you want to play on your TV i would stick to actually console games.
