Is Siemens Wireless Networking Gear any good?

The 2624 is one of the best 802.11b Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

The rest of the stuff is no better or no worse than the others.

The Powerline stuff!

If you do not plan to use it stay away from it.

The rest is a good deal

The powerline stuff seems awfully new to be going on clearance sale. I wonder if powerline in general has been a marketing bust, or just Siemens' implementation of it.

I've seen a couple of $10 routers lately! I wonder what is going on. Maybe places are trying to clear stuff out before 54G takes over the world. Or, maybe there is an industry shakeout going on, and pretty soon Linksys, Netgear and Dlink will be all that is left.

Putting aside the "merits" of Powerline Network.

A sale like this usually means that Circuit City decided to stop carrying Siemans.

i noticed that clearance in the hot deals this morning...when to buy several things and had been beaten, they were oos on all of it, ugh

You sure? Ask the manager why the prices are marked down in hundreds of other CC around the country? Or better yet, order online and pick it up at the store. Last I checked, the prices on the Powerline stuff are marked down.

I bought one of these wireless routers at CC the other day but then compared it to my D-Link 614+ I opted to keep the D-Link just because it has a 3 year warranty vs the 1 year from Siemens. Both have great reviews. I could not seem to find any reviews for the Siemens on practicallynetworked.

I just got call from efficient networks quality assurance manager after sending e-mail to their corporate office and submitting complaints to FCC and BBB. He apologized for tech support lame response and said he will arrange president of support give me ya call at around 3pm and help me make my devices work in wep. linsys, dlink, sms support their products why should these guys. If anyone got those products having problems PM me I have his direct number. He called me not because of FCC or BBB but because of e-mail sent to corporate office not their support e-mail.

John is only supervisor or manager efficient has in tech support, he knows what he is talking about only sad part why cant they put in manual or FAQ on their web site or instruct their monkeys to help people instead of them to tell them BS. Ask for John if you need support

PRINTER WORKS, WEP IS ON

THANKS JOHN!!! (he is only supervisor in tech support, very small team)

Those of using xp uncheck the box that says let xp configure wireless network ( manual said to check it)

if u turn wep on go to SpeedStream Lan utility where it says encryption put same passphrase as you put on the router and boom works

i had problem with their wireless router, couldn't connect to the ip, tried whatever possible way. I gave up.

when i plugged in the powerline wireless router, i was able to configure it and everything... might just keep that and not use powerline, just use it as a wireless router.

I don't think i want to run around fiddling with anything else.

got to it before me. well said.
Please explain why powerline is bad. Thanks.

Also, just a thought. CC was carrying 4 brands of home networking equipment; Netgear, Microsoft, Linksys and Siemens. My guess is that CC thought they were carrying too many brands and Siemens was probably the low seller so they dropped it. I also heard someone say that Siemens is getting out of the retail home networking market.

In general, PowerLine Network is a loser, and there technological reasons for it.

The Network Signal has to share the medium (power lines) with Electrical Instruments that generate huge amount of noise and terrible spikes. The Wires are not Twisted or Shielded and they are Ethernet ?Hell?.

As a result the Network Modules that are used to ?Inject? and decode the Network signal are expensive to make and yield lower ?Speed?. Increasing the ?Speed? will make them so large and expensive that it will be impossible to market them.

However, when the dream house (ala Mr. Gates) will be prevalent. Powerline devices will make the Washing Machines, Refrigerators, and Hair Salons instant Networked. These appliances do not need more ?Speed? than the current Powerline module in order to be efficiently control. To install Ethernet and CAT5 wires, for al the home appliances will be too expensive, and it is not really necessary to do it with Ethernet.

So the industry tries to keep the PowerLine alive until the "Dream Machines" become a reality (and mean time takes few suckers for a ride).

I'm having problems setting WEP on. It keeps disconnecting and I have to keep typing the generated code to keep the connection. I disabled XP's Zero Wireless Configuration service -- is this what you are referring to? Thanks.

Call tech support in the afternoon and ask to speak with John ,he is only one know something in that technical support team

$30 no rebate - the print server part alone cost that much
Also, it is the only 4-port wireless router with print server & 5db detachable antenna <- IMHO, one of the BEST in 802.11b class

And Guess what, all consumer level router is about the same, OEM by only a few factories in taiwan.
different external casing, same internal guts.

and gee... someone have difficulty to set up a router & print server ?

I set up a few for my friend in 10 mins. Use DHCP, piece of cake.

For those who use WEP, u are decreasing the wireless bandwidth throughput.
I don't see why u guys are so anal about using WEP encryption. What kind of cr@p do u have ?

Just lock down the Internal IP address in the Access list in router, so no other pc can acesss.

Mmmkey ?

Can you elaborate a bit. Do you mean MAC filtering? Also, I have the Siemens USB adapter on a computer, how do I prevent someone from accessing my computer thru the USB adapter? I don't want files on my computer to be touched by uninvited guest, that is all.

True -- and good suggestion. But for me, it's purely educational. Also, if I get it to work, I can at least assure my geek friends who visit with their laptops that my network is secure. A bragging point at the least...

So I guess calling and looking for John is the only way to go...
