I disagree. Criminal negligent homicide is manslaughter. In your analogy, the guy in the first example could be charged with involuntary manslaughter, and in the second example, that is second-degree murder.
the first would be Negligence Causing Death.

the second would be Depraved Indifference Homicide (Manslaughter 2nd degree)
