$200 is a small price to pay for a phone that works. A lot of those cheap phones suck or at the very least they don't have much staying power.

Last time I checked, companies in the private sectors aren't mostly funded in taxes.

So, when someone working for the government on official business is given an international phone, that's a waste of tax money? Or do you think he's just some scrub being given a free phone?

No idea why you're bringing this argument into this thread, but there are plenty of reasons why someone gets a phone from work - the primary reason being to actually get work done!

The Rezound is slow, fat, has crappy battery life, and an inferior screen compared to the S3. The display on the Rezound isn't even optically bonded to the outer glass so there will be a visible gap and dust could even get between the two.

It's great with the leaked ICS rom, fat? opinion, I personally hate thin phones, I had a One X and it felt like a plastic toy, way too thin and way too light. But that's just my opinion *shrug*


Battery life? The Galaxy has better talk time, everything else is virtually identical. And with the leaked ICS rom the Rezound will surpass it in everything but talk time and video play back.

Screen's inferior? another opinion. The SGIII screen isn't anything special, and as with every other Samsung phone the whites look god awful. But! the blacks are superior so that negates the piss poor whites right? Rezound has poor blacks SGIII has poor whites, if you use your phone outdoors the Samsung gets >. If you use it in doors and aren't running hacked system apps that are inverted the whites on the Rezound will blow the Samsung away. The stock GB system apps are all white, same with ICS. Neither phone has a clearly better screen, it all depends on what you plan to use the phone for. I'm not saying the Rezound has a better screen, I'm saying for what *I* use my phone for it has a much better screen. This obviously isn't the case for you.

My wife has a low end droid with a tiny screen, no 4g, and is stuck on 2.2. No thanks. Is go back to my blackberry before that

Verizon gives government fantastic deals on high end phones, and they have the state contract.

It's also called employee retention. They could give me a real raise due thanks to buget policy but could give me a phone to entice me to not leave for a higher paying private sector job. You want gov to suck less and be more productive and less wasteful but not.fight to retain good employees?

Seriously, you will leave for another job over a friggin phone? Then go. Also, there are many midrange phones that have LTE, Android 2.3 and a decent screen. I am only mentioning this because you are not the only person and all this adds up. WOrse, we are in a deep recession and wasting money on fancy phones that do not increase productivity but increase cost is a waste. OP should try to make himself the exception and be prudent with the taxpayer's money. Don't make excuses. Lead by example.

its about the whole package, total compensation. The phone was part of a change in scope of employment that made me turn down a higher paying job elsewhere.

I have come in under budget on every project I have worked on at this job(save one, but it was within the contingency and I increased its scope about 6 times during the project). Including 10K this year merely auditing our MS Licensing that my predecessor and current coworker were too lazy to deal with. costing us over 10k a year for atleast the last 5 years.

the 50 bucks a monthy it costs is some of the best spending of my local gov. these aren't your tax dollars, its my tax dollars(county government) and I take as good of care of them as I can, but that doesnt mean I should work comparibly for peanuts

take your holier than thou BS outta here. its not the point of this thread, nor is warrented if you think I am a tax leech because of a 50 dollar phone package from my government employer so that I have work email and vpn access 24/7(which is when I am on call, 24/7 365). This is certainly not abnormal in the IT field for systems and network administrators. Only people that have on call requirements here are offered phones. (Speaking of lead by example, I did turn down the 4g mifi and laptop replacement last year since my personal laptop was fairly new)




'we' also only get offered cetain phones, and its mostly the halo phones. last month they(verizon govt sales) offered free bionics to anyone who hadnt gottena new phone in 12 months(saldy it ended a week before the incident with my thunderbolt) though the bionic is now EOL and will also get no updates past the ICS update.

If you're going to make claims about a display you might want to do a little research first if you want to be taken seriously.

of course I've seen them. Many times and the whites are very dim and not white at all. Of course, we've been over this many times and many have acknowledged that oleds are weak when it comes to color accuracy and brightness. end of story.

Experience means jack shit if you don't have a good baseline to compare that experience.

If a screen has an almost perfect reproduction of the color white but your baseline is off by 1000K, then yes, you will think that the white is not "true" white, even though by scientific standards it is.
