Is Sempron 3100+ better performer than A64 2800+

Confused a bit by the numbering scheme

Sempron 3100+ 256kb L2 cache retail cost $121
A64 2800+ 512kb L2 cache retail cost $120

Both run at 1.8ghz
Both 754 socket

you coulda found this out on anand in about 2 mins.

what is confusing you is the "PR RATING"

the pr rating of the sempron follows the AXP rating scheme.
the A64 rating scheme is a different mhz/pr ratio.

Everything I found did indicate the A64 was the better choice. The PR ratings threw me as well as the lower (slight) cost of the 2800+.

Who would but a 3100+ when for the same price an A64 can be had ?

They are the same except:
2800 has double the cache
2800 is 64-bit enabled.

So, for the same price it is an easy answer, the 2800.
