is selling copied clothing against the law?

So I'm in China for a week and I've noticed that having a suit made is really cheap here. So I had them make an EXACT copy (well, minus the BR tag) of a Banana Republic suit I have. But would it be illegal to sell copies of it on ebay?

Isn't it like reverse engineering clothing? Can you have a copyright on a suit design? I figure knock-off Nike's are against the law just cause they've got the Nike logo and there are unique Nike shoe designs.

I wouldnt think so. Just as long as you dont try to sell it with any name tied to it. You cant say "Exact copy of Banana Republic suit" you can say "Nice Suit" 😉

There's definately copywrigths on designs. I work in a law office and one of our largest departments work with just these kind of stuff. So don't start a large industry on this, selling a couple of suits won't get you in truble though.

Aw, that's too bad. I was thinking that would be the best selling point, "Exact copy of BR suit" Because I don't know anything about suits, except I like my BR one. I paid $75 for it, coat and pants, but it's $473 at BR.

which suit is that from BR? I didnt know BR suits look that good that one might want to make a copy of it. you have a pic? 😉

that looks just like your run of the mill european cut 3-button suit, you should be ok, I am sure BR copies that from someone else. I think there is a 20% off BR coupon floating around 😉
