Is screen "rotation" software emulated on my Viewsonic VP171B?

My Viewsonic VP171B can be put on it's side for "portrait" mode, which is very useful for Word, IE, etc. Only thing is, it seems slower than "landscape" mode (which might also be normal resolutions). I tested it on 3DMark 2003 "portrait" and it only gets about 7 FPS for the first test (plane fight). I think it's software but im not sure, can anyone confirm? I dont really care since I play my games on "landscape" anyways because you get more horizontal viewing area.

EDIT: For some weird reason it also seems to refresh from the right side of the screen (top in landscape). Odd?

WHat are you using to do the rotation? Use the ATI built in one shouldn't affect frame rate. Bunch of games i got don't work in portrait resolution not supported.

Am using ATI utility.

3DMark2003 on Radeon 9000: First Test: Airplanes

landscape = 60fps
portrait = 6fps

Weird?
